Every once in a while I like to write about something other than Business Insurance and this is one of those times. I know there are a lot of people out there that rely on their bluetooth technology every day and others that don’t, so I think everyone can benefit from this post. Personally, I find it uncomfortable talking without it. Plus, it's probably better having both hands on the wheel versus just one. I have tried a handful of bluetooth's, but cannot break away from using the Plantronics Voyager. I have been using the voyager model now for just over seven years and just purchased my third one. You might be thinking, if you've had to buy three, why do you keep buying the same one? Simply put, I absolutely love the Plantronics Voyager model. When I initially researched bluetooth's, I my goal was to find one that had a long battery life, noise cancellation, fit comfortably and would last. Over the years, I have found the Voyager meets my needs. When it comes to battery life, the Plantronics Voyager will give you a solid 6 hours of talk time (a voice prompt will let you know how much time you have when you turn on your device). Considering I'm in and out of meetings all day, 6 hours is more than enough time for me. One caveat to this is, as the headset ages, the battery life seems to diminish, especially after you've had it for three years. That is the primary reason why I have had to buy a new one. In my opinion, this is normal, though. Any battery is going to wear out over time, especially if you are charging it every day. As far as noise cancellation, I think the Plantronics Voyager does an excellent job eliminating background noise. As an insurance agent, I am talking in my car and in coffee shops a lot, so this is a feature I really rely on. There's nothing worse than talking to someone with a crappy bluetooth. When driving in my car on the highway, I've never had someone tell me me the voice quality of my device was poor. FYI, I drive a Honda Accord not a jeep, so take that into consideration. Also, when working from coffee shops, I always step outside to take calls. The noise cancellation does a great job blocking out wind and some background noise. It probably wouldn't do very well blocking out a coffee grinder, if you’re sitting in the general vicinity of one. Comfort to me is a must. The last thing I want is a bluetooth that falls out of my ear or isn't comfortable. I get a lot of comments about the “jumbo” battery pack that goes around the ear. Honestly, it doesn't bother me. Perhaps I'm use to it. Sometimes I even forget I have it on. Notice how I said sometimes.....I'm not always that guy that walks around with a bluetooth. Lastly, I wanted a bluetooth that was made to last. Knowing that my bluetooth is going to be left in my car in the 100+ degree Austin, TX summer heat when I'm in meeting, I want a bluetooth that can handle the elements so to speak. The Plantronics Voyager is built to last. Outside of business hours, I also use it. Sometimes my kids will use it when they call family members on my phone. It's nice to have a bluetooth that can handle the abuse of a 5 and 7 year old. So there you have it, my review of the Plantronics Voyager. If you don't have a hands free headset, I highly recommend trying this one out. I just purchased a new one from FactoryOutletStore.com. You can also order from Amazon.
